In the heart of southern Africa, Botswana shimmers in the heat of the Kalahari sands. It harbours the unique Okavango Delta and an incredible amount of wildlife.
In Botswana, which is about 582 000 square km (of which 17% is protected!) one can find the Big Five and about 600 different species of birds.
In this peaceful country, with a population of less then 1 person/ square km, one can still find tranquillity and serene beauty. Diamonds and tourism are the main drives of the economy and this has resulted in Botswana being stable and welcoming for tourists from all over the globe.
- Botswana is a republic. The current president is His Excellency The President Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama.
- 80% of the country is covered by Kalahari sand, though many areas are covered by grass, scrub or are lightly forested.
- The capital is Gaborone in the south-east of the country.
- Languages are English and Setswana.
- Summer: from October to March (hot and maybe rain). Winter :from may to August ( cool during day, cold to very cold at night).
